July 4 Block Party

Hello Friends and Neighbors,

The West 55th Street Block Association is having a Block Party--it's first in at least 25 years--on Sunday, July 4 from 2 PM to 6 PM.
That's just two weeks away!

West 55th Street will be closed to traffic. Bring your own food and a chair or a blanket. If you have an extra chair, let us know. We will borrow/rent some grills as well.

There will be spoon relay races, face painting, a patriotic pet parade and more.

If you have a printer, please print the above flyer and post it in your building mail room, laundry room or an a nearby lamp post.

See you on the Fourth!

50 People Enjoy Characters Happy Hour

We had a record turnout at the June 14 Happy Hour at Characters Bar on West 54th Street. Fifty people came and enjoyed the free pasta, Shepherd's Pie and good company.

One couple came from as far north as 97th Street. We also met new friends from 75th, 57th and 53rd Streets.

The back room of the bar is a great place for a gathering and owners Mike and Linda (she was behind the bar) served as gracious hosts the whole time we were there. The third owner, Finn, restored the beautiful 1930s bar.

The next Block Meeting is July 12 and the next Happy Hour is scheduled for August 9.

ALERT: Road Construction TONIGHT, TOMORROW And Friday

Once again a set of signs has appeared on our trees giving us notice of night time construction tonight, tomorrow and Friday night. All cars are to be removed from 6 PM to 6 AM.

This time it looks like the DOT will be paving the street. A phone call to the DOT to find out about noise levels reveals that there will be rollers to smooth the gravel that they unload, trucks backing up and jackhammers.

Click here to look up street construction permits issued for our block (or any block in the City).

And here for the road resurfacing schedule. It looks like the paving crew might be three days ahead of schedule.
