24 Attend Demo of New Voting Machines

Twenty four people attended last night's demonstration of the new voting machines. The paper ballots and optical scanners will be used in today's primary and the general election on November 2, 2010. Bryan and Stephanie from the Board of Elections did a great job demonstrating the process and answering all questions.

Second Wave Launder Center Closing

The Second Wave Launder Center just put up a sign that they are closing their doors on Sept. 14, 2010. They have been great neighbors and provided excellent service for the past 20 years. Will post more if we learn any more details.

Update (9/6/2010): I emailed Gerry G., president of the Pembroke Co-op board to find out what was going on with the Second Wave Launder Center. He wrote back: "The Pembroke Board does not control store leases for our 9th Ave frontage. Sponsor has control over leases for the stores in accordance with original offering plan for the coop (1984). We do not gain control until about 2023.
We thought they were near an agreement and were dismayed to see the closing sign. We have asked our managing agent to contact the sponsor to find out what is up."
Gerry hopes to get more information by tomorrow, Tuesday the 7th.
