Fire at 347 West 55th

A fire broke out at around 9:20 this morning at 347 West 55th. Carlos from 345 said he saw flames at the back of the affected building. The New York Fire Department is on the scene with 5 trucks. A ladder has been deployed to the roof of the building. No reports of injuries. There is a strong smell of smoke. But the fire looks under control now.

One resident of 347 wrote this in an email: "What was truly alarming was waking up smelling smoke, looking out our 8th floor window and seeing firefighters run into our building, then opening our front door to a very smoky hallway. It was alarming to scramble to get dressed, grab our dog and some damp towels to breathe as we ran down the stairs. The entire building was smoky, it was not a minor incident."
